Construction Safety Officer

PCL Safety professionals includes Construction Safety Officers and are a very important part of the team, helping to deliver our Occupational Health & Safety program at the site level. Working closely with the Site Superintendents and the Health Safety and Environment supervisor on a day to day basis, you will manage aspects of site safety and ensure employees and contractors remain in compliance with relevant safety legislation.




Key duties and responsibilities


  • Support the Project Superintendent on-site throughout the construction phase
  • Promote a culture of job site safety, where safety is everyone’s responsibility
  • Regularly monitor health, safety & environment compliance of workers and sub-contractors
  • Conduct site specific health, safety & environment orientations for all new site workers and visitors
  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective action as required
  • Keep updated site safety plans as the project evolves, conduct hazard assessments, assists in incident investigations and risk assessments, as required
  • ensure that all, incidents and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties
  • Review sub-contractors’ documentation for accuracy and provide feedback to personnel
  • Participate in health, safety & environment meetings and toolbox talks
  • Maintain and prepare thorough documentation and reports
  • Keep the HSE team management updated on issues that arise
  • Support PCL’s HSE program and COR program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Person specifications:


  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) training completed and minimum 1 year experience within a Construction Safety role
  • Good knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, policies, guidelines and standards
  • Proactive in identifying hazards and implementing corrective measures to ensure that health, safety & environment standards are being met on site.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep detailed and accurate health, safety & environment records
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to influence others, in matters of health, safety & environment
  • Adaptable, and able to use good judgement and manage the unexpected
  • Able to commute to any of our site locations throughout the Metro Vancouver area





Minimum 1-year full time construction safety experience

Graduation of BCIT Occupational Health and Safety Diploma will be considered an asset

OFA 2(Preferred) 



Vancouver, BC (Preferred) No Living Out or travel allowance

Work Conditions


 This position is based on a standard 40-hour work week, with possibility of overtime if needed.
