Under the general direction of the Project Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting all aspects and functions related to the jobsite contract administration and construction inspection for Transmission Line Construction projects. You will be responsible for the on-site supervision of internal inspectors and both external/internal construction forces with respect to safety, environment and quality control.


- Oversee the day to day field activities associated with the construction contracts for overhead transmission lines, fibre optic cable installations, and microwave communication projects.

- Oversee assigned projects, and ensure contractor productivity and workmanship conform to design requirements, specifications, schedule, safety and environment plans and regulations.

- Coordinate delivery, handling and storage of materials to ensure availability at site in accordance with schedule requirements.

Track material quantities and issues.

- Provide assistance to the Construction Supervisor and back up coverage when necessary.

- Coordinate line crossings with contractor and journeyman.

- Coordinate with the Environmental Inspectors to identify and mark Environmental Protection Plan zones.

- Provide assistance and monitor quality inspection reports from contractor as well as inspection staff to conformance to

specifications and corporate inspection practices. Address issues, within technical ability as they arise.

- Participate in consultations and multi-stakeholder groups to identify and clarify the scope of public concerns expected to arise from transmission line and/or microwave projects.

- Liaise with Engineers from Civil Design, Geotechnical Engineering, Communication and other Manitoba Hydro departments as well as Contractors and Suppliers regarding engineering, constructability, scheduling, safety, environmental and financial issues.


- A two year diploma in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology from an institute of recognized standing and minimum of three years directly related experience.

- Possess a thorough knowledge of current construction, inspection and maintenance practices related to transmission lines (lattice, tubular steel or wood pole), communication towers, and overhead (OPGW) & underground fibre optic cables. Specific areas of knowledge and experience should include right-of-way clearing, foundations (grillage, mat, , caisson, helical), guy anchors (concrete block, helical, , over-burden grouted, load testing, pulse testing), soils (identification, sampling & testing), concrete/grout (reinforcing steel, mixing, placing, sampling, testing), steel lattice & tubular structures (assembly, welding, bolt torques, painting), wood-pole structures (assembly and erection) and conductors (stringing and sagging).

- Demonstrated ability to supervise, organize, train junior staff, schedule work and crews, and to work with a minimum of supervision.

- Ability to read and understand drawings and related technical information.

- Proven ability to deal effectively with landowners, Indigenous communities, contractors, MH personnel, public, government

- Physically capable of performing all duties of the position

- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.


Must be willing and able to travel and work anywhere in Manitoba for extended periods of time in remote, isolated work locations on

rugged terrain, by various modes of off-road, waterborne and air transportation.
